Crafted skins — finishes with one to four stickers permanently applied — have evolved from a niche of the CS:GO era into one of the most active collectible segments of the 2026 CS2 market. The pricing logic of crafts is non-linear: a four-sticker set costing $200 in raw stickers can produce a finished skin worth $20,000 or more if the sticker mix is right and the underlying skin is desirable. The non-linearity is not random — it is the result of three structured premiums layered on top of the base skin price.

Sticker supply: how capsules work

Stickers enter the market through capsules — purchasable containers tied to specific events, typically Majors or themed releases. Standard event capsules contain a single sticker drawn from a pool of approximately 16 to 22 designs, with weighted rarity:

Standard Major sticker capsule rarity distribution
RarityIn-game colorDrop chanceFoil/Gold odds
Paper (Mil-Spec)Blue~80%Foil 1%, Gold 0.1%
Holo (Restricted)Purple~16%Foil 1%, Gold 0.1%
Foil (Classified)Pink~3.2%—
Gold (Covert)Red~0.6%—
The exact rarities vary by capsule type — autograph capsules use a different ratio than design capsules. Foil and Gold variants of paper/holo stickers are independent secondary rolls.

Foil and gold multipliers

Within a single sticker design, the multiplier from paper to foil to gold is consistent across nearly every capsule. The empirical ratios across the past five Major capsule cycles:

Typical paper → foil → gold price multipliers (top tier, post-Major)
Sticker tierMultiplier vs. paperApproximate hold-period for stable price
Paper / Holo1.0×—
Foil8–25×60–120 days post-Major
Gold60–250×180–360 days post-Major
Multipliers depend on the design's collector demand. Top-three player autographs reach the upper end; mid-tier autograph foils land at the lower end.

Position premiums on crafted skins

When a sticker is applied to a skin, the slot it occupies (typically four positions on rifles, distributed across the body) influences the visual prominence and therefore the collector premium. Empirical analysis of high-value crafts shows the following position pattern on the AK-47:

AK-47 sticker position visibility weights (collector-empirical)
PositionVisibility weightPremium contribution to craft
Position 1 (magazine)1.00Reference
Position 2 (top of receiver)0.85−10%
Position 3 (forward stock)0.75−15%
Position 4 (handguard)0.90−5%
Position weights vary by skin design — some camos obscure stickers more than others, and the premium reflects how visible the sticker remains in normal viewing angles.

For an AK-47 craft using four identical stickers, the total premium is approximately the sum of position weights × foil/gold multiplier × base sticker price, layered on top of the underlying skin price. A four-Howl-foil AK-47 Redline craft, for example, can be modeled as base skin price + 4 × foil sticker price × ~3.4 craft multiplier, which has historically produced market values in the $1,500–$3,000 range depending on float.

The 'craft multiplier' explained

The most important and least-understood premium is the craft multiplier — the additional value the market assigns to a finished craft beyond the simple sum of (skin + sum of sticker prices). Crafts trade at a multiplier above this raw cost because:

  1. The craft is irreversible. Once stickers are applied, removing them destroys both the stickers and the wear-state-of-application data; selling individual components is impossible.
  2. The combination is structurally rare. The probability that any single Howl ever received four foil Howls in the right positions, on a low-float, is vanishingly small. Each finished craft is essentially a one-of-N item.
  3. Collector demand rewards specificity. The buyer pool for 'a Howl with stickers' is large; for a specific four-Howl-foil-Howl on a 0.06 float, the buyer pool may be a single individual at a single moment in time, but the ceiling that buyer is willing to pay can be vastly above the linear sum.

Empirically, the craft multiplier on a clean four-foil AK-47 sits between 1.4× and 3.5× the linear sum, depending on the underlying skin's collector status and the sticker design's iconic value. For four-gold crafts, the multiplier is much wider — between 2× and 8× — because the sample size of completed crafts is small enough that each transaction sets a new comparable.

Sticker scrape and 'damage' value

Stickers in CS2 retain a 'wear' state from 0% (pristine) to 100% (fully scraped). Scraping is irreversible per session and accelerates with weapon use. The pristine 0% state carries the full craft premium; partial scrape (5–30%) is sometimes sought by collectors who prefer a 'used' aesthetic but generally trades at 70–85% of pristine. Heavily scraped stickers (>60%) approach the value of the underlying skin alone — the sticker premium effectively decays to zero.

Pricing model: putting it together

A simplified pricing model for a four-sticker craft on a desirable skin:

Craft_Value ≈ Skin_Value + (Σ Sticker_Value_i × Position_Weight_i) × Craft_Multiplier × Scrape_Factor
Craft_Multiplier ranges 1.4–3.5 for foils, 2–8 for golds. Scrape_Factor is 1.0 at pristine, decaying with each percentage of scrape.

Practical takeaways

  • Foil stickers cost 8–25× paper, golds cost 60–250×, with autographs at the higher end.
  • Position weights matter — center-visible slots carry the largest premium contribution.
  • The craft multiplier is the irreversibility premium and ranges 1.4–3.5× for four-foil sets.
  • Sticker scrape is value-destructive — fresh crafts trade at meaningful premiums to scraped equivalents.
  • Top-end crafts behave like illiquid collectibles: thin order books, wide bid-ask spreads, episodic price discovery.

Sticker economics is where CS2 stops looking like a commodity market and starts behaving like a high-end collectibles auction. The combination of capsule rarity rolls, foil and gold multipliers, position premiums, craft irreversibility, and scrape decay produces a pricing surface so multi-dimensional that no two crafted skins are directly comparable. The traders who profit consistently in this segment are the ones who treat each item as a unique asset and build pricing models that respect every dimension simultaneously.
